As a convenient alternative to surgery, we use injections of Botulinum Toxin to reduce and relax frown, forehead and laughter lines around the eyes. The benefits of these Injections are visible within 5-12 days and will last for 3-4 months, giving the face a smoother, fuller and more rested look.
A few drops of Botulinum Toxin are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates the problem wrinkle. Muscle Relaxing Injections can be combined with other treatments like Dermal fillers or Mesolift to provide an overall facial rejuvenation. Botulinum Toxin can also be successfully used in treating underarm sweating, blocking the nerve impulses from stimulating the muscle and relaxing the area. After the treatment, the skin relaxes over the muscles while the surrounding untreated facial muscles contract as normal. This is important in allowing facial expressions to remain unaffected. The pain factor is minimal with a pinprick at the injection followed by a mild burning sensation wearing off in minutes. Actual treatment takes around 15 minutes to perform.
The Botulinum Toxin is a sterile, safe and effective product, used now for over ten years to treat serious medical conditions and since it is not permanent, any possible side effects are temporary and localized to the immidiate area. Some tenderness or bruising can be felt at the site of injection, and any headaches are mild and transient. Antibodies have been known to be produced and should this happen, the toxin becomes ineffective, but there are no other effects. There are other, albeit rare complications caused by the Injections which include droopy eye (ptosis), dry eye and photosensitivity. Ptosis, is due to diffusion of toxin from the upper eyelid injection sites to the levator muscle.
Do not drink Alcohol nor take Asprin 24 hours before the treatment. Tell your practitioner of any history of bronchitis, pneumonia and any breathing problems.
After treatment please refrain from touching the treated area for 3-4 hours and remain upright during this time. Do not take any facial massages or have electrical stimulation to the face for 24 hours after the treatment. Try not to overstretch, bend or kneel excessively for 2 days which includes no shoe shopping following the treatment! Do not fly for up to 72 hours and we recommended that you avoid alcohol for 12 hours. Muscle weakening does not begin until 48 hrs after treatment, but can sometimes take up to 12 days. The treatment lasts for 3-4 months before muscle activity is gradually resolved and it is recommended that you return for more treatments at the first sign of muscle re-activation.
